  • B Thompson (they/them)

I make zines and shoot film photos! I dabble in a lot of other visual art mediums that I hope to get better at one day. Austin Kleon and Corita Kent are major inspirations to me for their childlike attitude towards art. I’ve been making zines since 2019 and shooting film since 2020. My dad handed me down his film SLR camera for my birthday in February 2020. I love to take portraits and concert photography.

I started DIY Museum in November 2020 in hopes of starting an arts space in Los Angeles. I still dream of an arts space in this rendition of DIY, and it feels closer than ever!

  • Ruby Piper (they/them)

I helped found DIY Museum in its Bay Area conception in order to entrench myself in a community of queer artists. I have wanted for years to learn more artistic skills, as well as share my skills with others, and DIY Museum has allowed me to that and so much more. It is important to me that DIY Museum is a collective that fosters safe spaces for us to explore all mediums of creativity together and I love being a part of making that a reality.

I like to make art that captures the blur of moments in time. I mainly work in mediums of zines, film photography, poetry, and collage. I like my art to feel expansive and not tied down to any particular school of thought or medium.

My biggest goal for DIY Museum is to open up a physical location that can serve as a community hub for queer artists. I help get us to that goal by writing grant applications and conceptualizing programming. Most importantly, my overarching goal is to have fun and facilitate joyous spaces at every event.
